This year’s 2018 Year in Pictures photos and multi-media winners will be presented at the incredible exhibit space at El Barrio Artspace PS 109, 215 E. 99th Street in Manhattan on Tuesday, April 23, 6:30-9:30 p.m. There should be plenty of nearby parking, and mass transit.


The winners of the annual contest will receive their prizes, including cash awards and plaques at this event.

The New York Press Photographers Association (NYPPA) is proud to announce the winners of the 2019 Photographer of the Year and the 2019 Sports Photographer of the Year Awards.

Thomas A. Ferrara, staff photographer of Newsday, has been named the 2019 NYPPA Photographer of the Year, sponsored by Canon Inc. The panel of three judges considered versatility, content and quality in selecting the Photographer of the Year winner. Judges said that Ferrara’s portfolio stood out because of the variety of images that showed the strength and diversity of the photographer’s images.

Brad Penner, Independent Photographer for USA Today Sports, has been named the 2019 NYPPA Sports Photographer of the Year, sponsored by Getty Images. The judges said that his portfolio showed strong visual content at a variety of sporting events.

The 2019 NYPPA Best in Show sponsored by FujiFilm will be announced at the Gallery opening.

The gallery presentation will feature the winning pictures in free-standing frames. The multi-media videos will be shown in a separate viewing room being provided by the gallery.

Members and their guests will be treated to live music, food and open bar for the entire evening. Come as you are or come dressed to the nines and celebrate great photojournalism and multi-media.

If you want to receive your prize money and plaques, you are encouraged to show up for this event.

The exhibit will be open from April 20-30 daily.
