Still Photography Contest Judges

Robert F. Rodriguez is a past president of the NYPPA. He worked for The Journal News / Gannett as a staff photographer, Chief photographer and Director of Photography. Later Robert worked as an associate editor at Daily Mail. He is also a former Artist-in-Residence at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine and co-author of two New York City-themed books. He is a highly experienced visual journalist with extensive knowledge in photo and video editing, web research, social media, creating photo composites, producing video and photo galleries, web management, caption and headline writing and special projects.

Deirdre Finzer Read is a Photo Agent. She is the former Deputy Visual Research Editor for Oprah Daily and O, The Oprah Magazine: Quarterly, & Prevention at Hearst Magazines. From 2013-2020 she handled visuals for O, The Oprah Magazine: “Live Your Best Life,” “Where Are You Going?” & “Reading Room” sections – encompassing lifestyle, celebrity portraiture, and photojournalism. She also contributed to O, The Oprah Magazine’s Instagram account. Previously, she was a Freelance Photo Editor at TV Land, TIME books, The New York Post: Page Six Magazine & Alexa, The International Emmys and AOL. She worked on staff as a Photo Editor Specialist at National Geographic Magazine (2010-12), a Supporting Picture Editor at TIME Magazine (2006–10), an Assistant Photo Editor at World Picture News (2004–06) and as First Assistant for photographer Eddie Adams (2003-04). Deirdre graduated in 2002 from Indiana University with a B.A. in Communications and Culture. She volunteers conducting portfolio reviews for The Palm Springs Photo Festival, NYCFotoWorks, Photoville for the ASMPNY, PhotoNOLA Festival, and the Eddie Adams Workshop.

Emily Hartmann, Senior Producer of Special Projects at WABC-TV, supervises the production of premium content for ABC7NY, Hulu, and ABC Owned Television’s streaming platforms. With 12+ years of professional experience, Emily has a passion for documentary-style storytelling and true crime, and a record of success in creating innovative, high-impact, and award-winning content for digital, social, broadcast, and streaming audiences. Award-winning projects include: ‘Eyewitness to 9/11: Behind the Lens’ documentary, ‘Missing’ true crime series, and ‘Eyewitness to Gilgo Beach’ documentary series.

Stephen Cioffi is an accomplished videographer and editor whose work has won Emmys, Murrows, Deadline Club and Sigma Delta Chi awards. He currently works as the chief photographer in the programming department at WABC-TV, working on the numerous specials that the department produces every year covering the New York Auto Show, NYC Pride and Broadway.  Before working in the programming department, Stephen shot and edited various news specials for WABC, including the true crime docuseries “Missing,” “Eyewitness to 9/11: Behind the Lens,” “Set the Record Straight: The Jam Master Jay Case” and “Eyewitness to The Death of John Lennon.” These specials, along with others, aired on Hulu and ABC streaming platforms as well as over the air broadcasts. Stephen also worked in WABC-TV’s investigative unit for 6 years exposing and bringing to light many issues in the Tristate area, including underreported or ignored cancer clusters in school children in Long Island and under inspected or non-working fire alarms in public housing that led to deadly fires.

Kim Dillon is Assistant News Director at WABC-TV, the most watched television station in North America. She has been honored with a national Edward R Murrow award, multiple Emmy Awards, and the prestigious Sigma Delta Chi award from the Society of Professional Journalists.   She has practiced journalism for more than 35 years as a reporter and newsroom leader and has led successful newsrooms and staff to achieve impactful and thoughtful visual journalism.  

Brett Cohen is a Murrow and multi-Emmy award winning Craft Photographer and Editor at WABC-TV. He works as a photojournalist in the Eyewitness News Investigative Unit and works on numerous special projects at the station. In addition to his day to day duties, he recently produced, edited, shot and launched a true crime docuseries for Hulu and ABC streaming platforms.  His photojournalism has helped expose and shine a light on many issues in the Tri-State area from the conditions for inmates at Rikers Island, to exposing the deadly effects of the fentanyl crisis, to the devastating impact ghost guns are having on the safety of children. Brett also travels to cover breaking news.  He recently spent days doing around the clock coverage of the mass shooting in Maine and the death of and funeral of Queen Elizabeth.
