DCPI Extends Working Press Card Expiration to End of Year Renewal Appointments Now Being Accepted

By ROBERT ROTH
Member of the NYPPA Government Relations Committee

DCPI informed me today that our Working Press Cards which are marked with an expiration date of 1/15/2010 “have been extended to the end of the year.”

Appointments for renewals (actually for the new Press Card) are being made. The earliest available date they had today was in the first week of October.

If you need an application or instructions, you can find them at http://nyc.gov/html/nypd/html/press_relations/credentials.shtml#credentials

SB D Gallery is calling for entries: "The World, as of 09/10/01"

SB D Gallery is calling for entry of your photographs, drawings, paintings, sculpture, or in any art forms that reflects good memories of Twin Towers once stood (1966-2001) before the terror. The main purpose of this exhibition is in effort to heal from that horrible attack which took so many precious lives and the fundamental security from our vulnerable life.

Last year, there were 46 international artists participated in and it was extremely emotional and embracing opportunity for millions of people around the world seeking for comfort around this time of the year, rather than a cruel reminder of the terror itself.

NYPPA Members, please log in for instructions and details regarding this project.

UPDATE: DCPI Releases New Press Card Application

NypdLogo.jpg

UPDATE 08/20/10 - Contrary to what is posted on their site, DCPI is NOT ready to take applications. Wait until you are notified by either a notice on this site or by email from DCPI. We expect them to begin sometime in September. Because of the volume they must handle, it appears that we will not get expedited treatment and each person will have to make their own appointment.

The long-awaited NYPD Press Card application has just been released. You can find instructions and a DOWNLOAD link at http://nyc.gov/html/nypd/html/press_relations/credentials.shtml#credentials.

Press Card applications must be printed or typed.

Some important differences in applying from the past:

• Six clips are required instead of the previous three.
• The clips must be from “covered events” that happened on different days.
• The clips can be within the past two years rather than one.
• The distinction between the Working Press Card and the Press Identification Card has been abolished - the only card available for everyone is the Press Card.
• The Association will work on setting up a series of days for appointments for freelance/non-staff members, but we are told it will be sometime in September.

DCPI identifies the following as key requirements:

(b) To be eligible to receive the Press Card an individual must be a member of the press who:

(i) Covers, in person, emergency, spot or breaking news events and/or public events of a non-emergency nature, where police, fire lines or other restrictions, limitations, or barriers established by the City of New York have been set up for security or crowd control purposes, within the City of New York; or

(ii) Covers, in person, events sponsored by the City of New York which are open to members of the press.
