NYPPA Holds Annual 'YEAR IN PICTURES' Dinner and the Installation of its 2009-2011 Board

(NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. –May 30, 2009) – The New York Press Photographers Association had the swearing in of Ray Stubblebine as he was re-elected NYPPA President and Julia Xanthos as Vice- President at its Annual Awards Dinner held on Friday May 29 at Terrace on the Park in Queens, NY.

RAY STUBBLEBINE – a NY based Reuter’s photographer with over 35 years covering New York City and the world, and has served as the President of the NYPPA for the past 4 years.

JULIA XANTHOS - a NY based staff photographer for the Daily News covering news and feature assignments. This is her 1st term in office after serving on the Board of Trustees for a year.

WILLIAM PERLMAN of The Star-Ledger was re-elected to his 3 term as NYPPA Treasurer. He is a veteran of The Star-Ledger for more than 18 years.

SUSAN MARKISZ – a UNICEF photographer was elected to her second term as Secretary.

The New York Press Photographers Association is a 94-year-old New York State non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the efforts of New York’s professional photojournalists. The NYPPA aims to provide professional and educational outreach to its members and the community through programming, an annual competition and a celebration of the industry at the annual "Year in Pictures" Dinner Dance.

The top winners of the still and video contests were honored at the 74th annual 2008 'Year in Pictures' Gala on May 29, 2009, at Terrace on the Park in Queens, NY. Jennifer Brown –The Star-Ledger was awarded the Photographer of the Year and David Goldman-Freelance took 'Best in Show' for his "Harlem Reacts to Obama Win" at the event that celebrates all the winning photojournalists. The event included in the attendance members of the photo industry and Photo Editors of the New York area newspapers and wire services.
